Andrew Knutson

Andrew Tiller Knutson died on August 6, 2016, age 91. Preceded in death by son, Paul Robert; sisters, Jean Rostad and Luella Torgerson. Survived by wife of 65 years, Joan (Skouge); daughters, Amy Blackburn (Aaron Giesicki) and Sara Zanish (Michael) and son, Daniel. Grandchildren: Erica and Justin Zanish; Megan, Katherine, and James Blackburn; Kallie and Drew Knutson and Courtney Shepler. Sister, Ardelle Fish (Warren). Brother-in-law, Gordon Skouge; seven nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Menomonie, WI . Andy served his country as an Army combat medic in WWII in Africa, Italy, France, Belgium and Germany. He was wounded in France and awarded a Purple Heart. After the war, Andy went to St. Olaf College majoring in chemistry and biology and was graduated in 1950. The summer prior to college, Andy worked as a hospital orderly in Eau Claire where he met another summer employee, Joan Skouge, who later became his wife. After college, Andy worked in research at Mayo Clinic, pharmaceuticals in Skokie, IL joining 3M in 1953 and retiring in 1985. The majority of his time at 3M was in Medical Products. Andy enjoyed spending time with his family, supporting their interests and doing activities together. They especially enjoyed skiing as a family. He and Jo also enjoyed many days on golf courses with friendsa�"even playing one time at St. Andrews, Scotland. They also traveled to many countries together. Andy was also a avid reader of non-fiction, enjoyed concerts and theater. Andy was always an active Lutheran church member, in Menomonie, Evanston, St. Timothy in St. Paul before moving to White Bear Lake. He was a charter member and first president of Redeemer Lutheran, WBL St. Andrew's became his church home 25 years ago where he made many friends through activities and worship. Memorial Service Thursday, 11:00 A.M. at ST. ANDREW'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 900 Stillwater Road, Mahtomedi. Visitation one hour prior. Interment St. Andrew's Columbarium. Memorials preferred to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church.
