Roger Eugene Amundson

Age 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, May 31, 2020.   Roger is preceded in death by his wife Joyce, granddaughter Heather, sister Helen; his parents, Norvell and Helena (Kammerud) Amundson and step-mom, Gertrude (Brandt) Amundson. Roger will be greatly missed by his three daughters Debbie Hamilton (Drew), Judy Heininger and Cindi Amundson.  He is also survived by his sister Joan (Stu) Anderson, nieces, nephews and cousins.  Roger was blessed with 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Roger served in the army as a paratrooper and medic with the 82nd Airborne and loved to share his experiences about jumping out of airplanes.   He was a mechanic by trade and a jack of all trades. If it could be built, he would build it.  He was a great listener and conversationalist.   He and Joyce raised their family in White Bear Lake and loved the outdoors, spending weekends and summer vacations camping, fishing and exploring with his family, cousins and friends across the US.  When he and Joyce became empty nesters, they built a home on Lake Mille lacs in Garrison where he was an active member of various community organizations, Lions Club and church.  Family and friends were frequent visitors to their lake home and enjoyed the time to relax, fish and pontoon around the lake.  Roger and Joyce moved back to the Twin Cities (Hugo) after 25 years up north and were involved with their community, church, family and friends.  He loved people and helping others and was always the guy who made sure you were greeted and acknowledged.  Roger was patient, kind, compassionate, humble and a joker.  In every conversation you were sure to be the recipient of his humor and tender heart.  Roger left a significant imprint on the hearts of those whose lives he touched.  He left a legacy of precious memories of a man who was always willing to lend his hand and his time to others.    He would often say “I’ve had a great life; the Lord has been good to me”.

A celebration of Roger’s life will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2020, 3:00 P.M. at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 4600 Greenhaven Drive, White Bear with a gathering of family and friend beginning at 2:00P.M. A graveside service with military honors will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 3400 Century Ave. North, Mahtomedi, Minnesota.
