Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Friend
Age 71, Alan was born on March 7, 1942 in Stamford, Connecticut and passed away peacefully on October 5, 2013 surrounded by his family. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Rosalie Jean, and parents, Byron and Frances Knowlton. Survived by children Lynne, Laura (Mike) Ylinen, Lianna (Jim) Moody, and Alan Robert Knowlton II (Elizabeth); grandchildren Anna and Alec Ylinen, and Molly and Alan Robert Knowlton III; brothers Jeffrey (Beth), Stuart (Marian), Byron A. II (Cindy), and Patrick (Maria), many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
Alan was a Vietnam veteran who proudly served his country in both the Military Police Corp and the Criminal Investigation Division. He enlisted in the United States Army in March 1959 and retired in October 1980 as a Chief Warrant Officer III. There was so much more to Alan's life and accomplishments than could ever possibly be squeezed into a few small lines of print. What can be definitively said is that he was a good man. He believed in honor and integrity. He believed in honesty and said "You tell the truth and you tell it the right way". Alan loved his family and will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. Service Friday, 6:30 P.M. at BRADSHAW CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard (NW corner of Hwy 36 and Co Rd 5), Stillwater. Private interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation 2 hours prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Lakeview Hospice, 1715 Tower Drive West, Stillwater.
