Passed peacefully on July 5, 2011. Another of the "greatest generation", he served honorably in the U.S. Navy. After attending George Washington University Foreign Service School, he was stationed in the Caribbean and then as Naval AttachAC. at the American Embassy, London, England. A member of the U.S. Naval Reserve for 20 years, he continued service as an employee of the Veterans Administration 1946-72 where he authorized GI benefits for WWII and Korean Veterans. A longtime genealogy interest prompted studies which allowed him to trace family history to 17

century France, then Quebec and his father's citizenship after service in the Spanish - American War. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret Mary who passed in 1999 after 56 years of devoted marriage. He is survived by his brother, Ronald F. (Jeanne) of Mountain Iron, MN and his sister, Lorraine Giernett of A.J.'s boyhood home of Duluth, MN; five children, Ronald, Robert (Mary McEathron), Mardelle, Marlene LaMoure Urbach (John), Brian (Cyndi); four grandchildren, Michelle, Danielle, Eric and Sean; great granddaughter, Hannah Marie. Mass of Christian Burial Monday 10AM at LUMEN CHRISTI CATHOLIC COMMUNITY, 2055 Bohland Avenue, St. Paul. Visitation one hour prior to Mass at the church. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Allina Hospice and Lumen Christi Catholic Community.
