Alice Jo Kapsner
Age 84 of White Bear Lake passed away on Sunday, January 19th, 2025. She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Cecelia Widerski; sister Kay Fuchs; and brother Cliff Widerski.
Alice will be forever remembered by her husband of over 60 years, Tom; Children Paul (Anne) Kapsner and Shelley Meidlinger; grandchildren Allison (Dan) Solley, Libby (Ben) Trapp, Kelly (Tanner) Verstegen, Josh Meidlinger; along with many other beloved family and friends.
Alice grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota and graduated from Washington High School. She was a proud "Rice Streeter" and was selected as junior royalty queen for the St. Paul Winter Carnival. She worked for Bruce trucking in an administrative role prior to meeting the love of her life, Tom Kapsner. They were married in 1962 and lived in St Paul before moving to White Bear Lake in 1969 to raise their children, Paul and Shelley. Alice and Tom had a community of friends to include the St Paul firefighters and White Bear hockey parents. Those friendships were important to them and provided a social community they loved. Alice was a good athlete and enjoyed playing softball, volleyball and archery. She filled her time raising two children and volunteering at the elementary school in White Bear, as a tutor. Alice loved music, especially the Carpenters, John Denver, and Simon & Garfunkel. She had a great "8 Track" collection and was known to turn up the volume in the car.
Family was a cornerstone in Alice's life. She enjoyed raising her family in White Bear Lake and had many gatherings of extended family to include Alice's parents, her siblings Kay and Cliff and their families. Alice loved the outdoors and nature. Much of the family time was spent at the family cabin on Cedar Lake in Western Wisconsin. The cabin was Alice's happy place for most of her life and many memories came from time at the cabin.
She enjoyed sunsets on the lake, kids playing in the water and all things relating to cabin life. She had a passion for birds and kept the Hummingbird feeders and birdbath full to provide hours of joy observing the birds and their interesting lives. Alice also had a love for Roses and her rose garden in White Bear provided much happiness for her and others who received those roses.
In their retirement, Alice and Tom spent 26 wonderful winters at South Padre Island, Texas. Their time on South Padre Island provided them with many new friendships and much joy. Alice enjoyed beachcombing, farkel, and live music at their favorite bar Louie's.
Alice cared deeply about the world and her family. She was a thoughtful, generous and loving person who put others before herself. Alice was very proud of her children and grandchildren, quietly cheering them on in all their endeavors as they grew to be young adults. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by all she touched in her life. One of the last things Alice said before passing was that she was ready and knew she would not be forgotten. That is a testament to her faith and the life she lived.
