Loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Died peacefully on May 22, 2004. Preceded in death by parents, Marie (Porth) and August Markgraf; husband, William H. Mordick; grandson, William R. Mordick; siblings, Arthur, Edmund, Harvey, Francis, and Lillie; sons-in -law, Robert Dennis and Edmund Soller. Alma was born February 28, 1898 in Afton, MN. Her parents lived and farmed in Afton and Woodbury. Alma's grandparents Ferdinand and Wilhelmina Markgraf were founding members of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Afton. Church and family were a big part of her life. Alma's father later re-married Wilhelmina Rubbert Porth and the family moved to Woodbury, MN. They became members of St. John Lutheran Church. Alma attended a dressmaking school in St. Paul and later worked as a seamstress. She made Winter Carnival uniforms, sewed dresses for the ladies in White Bear and sewed many wedding dresses including her own. Alma married William Henry Mordick on October 30th, 1919. They lived together for 63 years in Lake Elmo. They became members of Saint Lucas Community Church , Lake Elmo. Alma was a member at Saint Lucas Community Church for 80 years. The homestead they lived on was originally settled in 1860 by Mathias Mordick, who came from Holstien, Germany. Alma is survived by her children, Marion Soller (Herman), Dorothy Dennis, Robert (Esther) Mordick, and William (Roberta) Mordick; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 14 great- great- grandchildren.
