Alvin Edward Soukup

Alvin Edward Soukup, 67, of Stillwater, MN, passed away on August 10, 2023, after a brief illness.
Al was born October 3, 1955, in Fargo, N.D. to Al and Evelyn Soukup. He attended Holy Spirit grade
school, and Fargo Shanley High School. After high school, he attended North Dakota State University on
a four-year football scholarship. Many who knew him in college were surprised to find out that Al knew
there was a library on campus and was actually spending time there; until they found out that Lori
Sande was employed at the NDSU library. They married in 1982 and made their first home in
Bloomington, MN. There they welcomed their first child Maggie, in 1987 and later, after moving to
Maple Grove, their son Sam was born in 1989.

After college Al went to work for Carlson Travel and later Martin Bastian Company, a Minneapolis-based
production company specializing in corporate meetings and events. He eventually bought Martin
Bastian and ran the company until he sold it to BI Worldwide. He worked at BI Worldwide as a vice-
president until he retired in 2021.

Al had a great passion for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Whether it was LacSuel, Leech
Lake or Turtle Lake, spending time in a boat with friends, family or football buddies was Al’s idea of
heaven on earth. Annual trips to the family farm in Lankin and Medina N.D. were much anticipated
events for him. He loved chasing ducks, geese and pheasants, and out in the field Al was a teacher and
mentor for not only his son and son-in-law but many of his nephews as well.

He was proud of his children and adored his new grandchildren. Spending time with family was very
important to Al and he often took it upon himself to organize family reunions.

Al is survived by his wife Lori, children Maggie (Wesley) Adair, Sam (Mackenzie) Soukup, grandchildren,
Henrik Adair, twins Harper and Hayes Soukup, mother Evelyn Soukup, brother Mike (Shelley) Soukup,
sister Kathy (Joe) Cicora, sister Nancy (Kris) Tufto, brother Greg (Dawn) Soukup, brother Scott (Annie)
Soukup, sister-in-law Betsy Sande, sister-in-law Kari (Guy) Oseth as well as 15 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Alvin Soukup, in-laws Milton and Bonita Sande and brother-in-
law Greg Sande.

Services will be held on Friday, August 25 th , 3 pm at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 2800 Curve
Crest Boulevard, Stillwater, MN.
