Dr. Anne Boyle Cross, age 56, of Minneapolis, passed away peacefully on January 13th, 2025 after enduring a brave 18 month battle with ovarian cancer.
Anne was born on January 23rd, 1968 in Minneapolis to parents Earl Micheal (Mike) Boyle and Mary Boyle (nee Maland). After Anne graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1986 she went on to study political science at the University of MN and later attended graduate school and earned an MA and PhD in sociology from Yale University.
After graduation, Anne embarked on a successful academic career and worked for many years at Metro State University as a full professor in Metro’s School of Criminology and Criminal Justice.
In 1994, Anne met her husband and soulmate Jason Cross while both attended Yale University as grad students. They went on to have two children together, Robert and Shannon.
Anne enjoyed supporting her community by participating in various charitable causes. As an animal lover, Anne loved to foster guide dogs in training with Can Do Canines and she was also an avid supporter of Minneapolis High School Hockey and founded and coached the organization’s Hockey Cheer program for many years.
Anne was predeceased by her parents Mike and Mary, and is survived by her husband and children, cousins, nieces, and countless friends.
A private celebration of life for Anne will be held in the near future. Those wishing to make memorial gifts in Anne’s memory should donate to Open Arms of Minnesota.
