Arnold Johnson

Arnold Theodore Johnson"Arnie", age 88 of Stillwater
Passed away September 5th, 2018 after a long battle with PSP. Arnold was born February 4th, 1930 to Theodore Julius Johnson and Mabel Nelson Johnson on the family farm in Alden Township, Polk County, WI.
After his service in the Navy where he was stationed on Guam during the Korean Conflict, Arnold began teaching in Souris, ND, taking the job over the phone. He taught mostly Science for four years and was also the principal for the last three years. Being in a small school, he taught a variety of subjects and developed a real desire to teach.
The next year, Arnie accepted an Academic year at the Institute of Arizona State University, in Tempe, AZ and completed his Master's Degree in Biological Science the following summer.
Leaving Arizona, he accepted a teaching position in Madison, WI, teaching science at two junior high schools- Sherman and Schenk.
The next 30 years were spent at North High School, North St. Paul, MN, where he taught biology and other sciences.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Norman, Rueben, and Lloyd; and sister, Grace. His mother died when he was 12 days shy of his 13th birthday, so his dad and Grace raised him. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Carol; daughters, Cynthia (Jeff) Weber of St. Croix Falls, WI, and Cheryl (Brad) Benson of Stillwater, MN; son, Kent (Janelle) of St. Joseph Township, WI; sister, Ruth Thierl of Bowling Green, KY. He will also be deeply missed by grandchildren, Kirsta (Nick) Sanchez, Liesl (Adam) Long, Karl Weber, Peter Weber, William Johnson, and great grandchildren Soren Sanchez, Anders Sanchez, Axel Long and Lexa Long. He loved his family and was very devoted to them.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, September 10th, 11:00AM at FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF STILLWATER, 813 Myrtle St. W., Stillwater, MN, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at church, as well as Sunday, September 9th, 4:00-6:00 PM at BRADSHAW, 2800 Curve Crest Blvd, Stillwater, MN. Heartfelt thanks go to the staff of Oak Park Heights Senior Living. Memorials preferred to the First United Methodist Church of Stillwater or the donor's choice.
