Passed away August 15, 2011 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.


Preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Eda Johnson and husband David. Survived by her daughters Pam Robb, Debbie Jankura and husband Ed; grandchildren Lindy and Robb Jankura; brother Bruce Johnson and wife Shari; sister-in-laws Jean Robb and Jeanne Schmitt; and many friends and family in the St. Croix Valley and Minneapolis areas. Attended Stillwater High School where she excelled in speech and drama. Received a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Was an a active member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Continued her education at the University of Wisconsin to earn her education degree. Began teaching in 1947 in the Stillwater country-school circuit. Went on to teach for many years at the Afton-Lakeland and Bayport (Andersen )Elementary Schools. Was recognized as a finalist for Minnesota Teacher of the Year for her unique educational programs. A member of the Delta Kappa Gamma women's educator society and American Association of University Women. Became an active member of the Afton Methodist Church and a popular speaker at many community events. Volunteered at the Afton Historical Society, often representing her uncle Ernie Pyle (WWII Pulitzer Prize war correspondent) at many historical events. Retired after a rewarding 38 years of teaching in the District 834 Schools. A memorial service will be held in Afton in July 2012. Memorials suggested to St. Croix Valley Church or Afton Historical Society.
