Barb passed away peacefully on September 22, 2018, at the age of 87. She was loving, faithful, creative and kind. Preceded in death by her husband, Richard Barnes; parents Marybelle and Arlie Toole; sister, Patricia Lampe. Survived by her three children, Jim Barnes (Melinda), Dan Barnes (Alison), Jennifer Barnes; sister, Peggy Sperry; 6 grandchildren and many nieces/nephews. She was born in Klamath Agency, OR and grew up in many towns in the Midwest as they followed their father's career with the US Forest Service. She graduated from Hancock High School, attended college at Macalester and received a Fine Arts degree from UM-Duluth. She met Richard (Dick) during high school in Duluth and they were married in 1951. A lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, she was a Deacon, actively involved in Circle, PWA, volunteer activities, and created banners and crafts. She provided a loving and creative home for their three children. Barb and Dick lived in Mankato, LaCrosse, Green Bay, Omaha, Deerfield and retired to their lake home near Stillwater, MN in 1990. At each home they made a circle of good friends and neighbors, whom they kept in touch with regularly through the beautiful handcrafted Christmas cards that Barb created each year. Her kindness and hospitality touched many people. She was a wonderful artist & naturalist, avid bicyclist, skier & golfer, enjoyed traveling & spending time with family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by all. Visitation Sat. Sept 29 at 9:45 AM, memorial service at 11:00 AM at 1st Presbyterian Church, 6201 Osgood Avenue North, Stillwater, MN. Memorials are preferred to First Presbyterian Church, Lakeview Hospice, HealthEast Pillars Hospice Home, and Cancer Research.
