Bernadine L. Schleihs (Fangel), age 79, of Westlake, OH passed away peacefully surrounded by family Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at The Lutheran Home, where she had resided since 2014.
Loving wife of the late Howard R. Schleihs for 55 years. She was married to Howard on September 12, 1959. He preceded her in death on July 7, 2016.
Loving Mother of Linda Marhefka (Paul), James Schleihs, Mark Schleihs, Paula Schleihs. Loving Grandma of Kevin Marhefka. Beloved Sister of Dorothy (Bob) Paulson, Mary Sundquist, Ruth (Richard) Schlect, Mike (Beverly) Fangel, Jerry (Debbie) Fangel.
The former Bernadine Fangel, daughter of Bernard & Irene (Joyce) Fangel, was born December 3rd, 1938 in St. Paul, Minnesota where she attended St. Agnes Grade and High School and also St. Agnes Catholic Church in St. Paul. After moving to Lakewood, OH in the early 1970s Bernie's life-long love for classical music and singing earned her a coveted spot as an Alto in the world-renowned Cleveland Orchestra Chorus for 18 years. Bernie was also a member of many other local choirs over the years including The West Shore Chorale, where she was the Alto soloist, and the choirs of St. James Church, Lakewood United Methodist Church and St. Clarence Church. She was an avid reader, lover of books and great literature in addition to being a well-known "Grammar Queen". Her handwriting was flawless and she was a life-long writer. Bernadine loved growing roses, gardening and large, old trees. She was an advocate for human rights, animal rights, equality and justice. Bernie was known throughout her life for her intellect, kindness, thoughtfulness, devotion and commitment.
Visitation for friends and family will be held at BRADSHAW, 1078 Rice Street, St. Paul, MN on Friday, April 6 from 5-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at HOLY SPIRIT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 515 S. Albert Street, St. Paul, MN at 10:00am. Interment at Roselawn Cemetery, Roseville, MN.
