of St. Paul
Passed away peacefully on March 2, 2012, following a lengthy illness. Bern was born in Duluth on March 22, 1922, to Ivy (Chartier) and Arthur George Eklund. He attended the La Salle Institute in Glencoe, Missouri, and St. Mary's College, Winona. He honorably served in the U.S. Army, and on November 26, 1949, married the love of his life, Jewell Marie Link. Bern was employed by ERA/UNIVAC/UNISYS Corporation for more than 35 years in marketing and computer programming. He was a man of deep faith, who dearly loved his family; volunteer work, especially for the Boy Scouts and the church; and a wide range of wonderful hobbies, including hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly sixty-three years, Jewell; two children, Dr. Julia Eklund (Rev. James) Koza (Madison, WI), and Dr. John (Dr. Ludmila) Eklund (Wayzata); two grandchildren, Katherine Koza and Nicholas Eklund; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by brothers George and Richard Eklund, and sister Marion (Eklund) Rasmussen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at the CHURCH OF ST. MATTHEW, 490 Hall Avenue, St. Paul with visitation at the church one hour prior to the Mass. Private interment at Riverview Cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. Matthew's Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. The family wishes to thank the staff at Cerenity on Humboldt LTC for their loving care.
