Went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 24, 2005. Bernice is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph J. Ackert and her brother, Robert Anderson. She was much loved and will be missed by her surviving sister, Arlene Erickson (Anderson); her children, Linda (Bill) Campbell and Gary (Lynda) Ackert; grandchildren; Emily, Marnie and Joseph Campbell; Elizabeth and Christina Ackert and many nieces and nephews. Bernice grew up on St. Paul?s Eastside. During WWII she worked at Villaume?s Lumber, building gliders in support of our troops in Europe. She was married to Ralph in 1942 and following the birth of their son, moved to the Highland-Groveland area of St. Paul, where she lived most of her life. Bernice was active in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, the Highland-Groveland Recreation Association and the Women?s Auxiliary of the VFW. She coached her daughter?s softball team for three years. She was a member of Highland Park Lutheran Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church. Following Ralph?s passing in 1967, Bernice worked as a care provider at the Shalom Residence in St. Paul, until her retirement. For those blessed to have Bernice enter their lives, her smiling face and caring touch will be remembered and missed. Service Wednesday, March 30 at 1:00 p.m. at BRADSHAW 678 South Snelling Avenue at Eleanor. Interment, Acacia Park Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday, March 29, 5:30 ? 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations preferred to Hospice Northeastern, 410 South Hager Ave., Barrington, IL 60067.
