Bernice Myrtle Handy, age 101, died Feb. 3, 2007, at Walker Health Care
Center, Minneapolis, MN. She was born to Willis and Alice (Judd)
Mitchell on November 20, 1905 at Weldon, IA. She married Jack Handy
on June 4, 1929 in Davis City. She graduated from the University of
Iowa with a BA in teaching in June of 1929. Her interests were varied
and numerous but all involved teaching and learning from and with
others. Her energies were boundless and if there was a way to get the
job done even when the odds were against it she would hang in until
accomplished, she never quit. She loved life, kids, gardening, and her
Epworth United Methodist Church family where one of her greatest joys
was to bring flowers from her garden for the altar. She was preceded in
death by her daughter, Shirley in 1980 and her husband in 1981.
She is survived by her son, Paul (Jean) Handy of Vancouver, WA;
grandchildren, Mike (Becky) Williams of Apple Valley, MN, Jane Lynn of
Becker, MN, Dr. Mark (Linda) Handy of Lakeside, CA, Donald (Susan)
Williams of Richfield, MN, Steve (Sheri) Handy of Vancouver, WA, Rev.
Cheryl M. Williams of Mound, MN, Pat (Guadalupe) Handy of Vancouver, WA,
James Williams of Mound, MN, Kathleen (Rick) Richart of
Vancouver, WA; 17 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren;
nephew, Phillip (Sandy) Deicher of Canyon Country, CA; and many, many
beloved friends.
Service Thurs, 11 AM at EPWORTH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 3207 37th Ave. S., Mpls. Interment Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation Wed, 4-7 PM at BRADSHAW (McDivitt-Hauge), 3131 Minnehaha Ave. S. Memorials preferred to Epworth United Methodist Church.
