Berniece Therese Marte (Sagstetter)
Age 93 of Arden Hills, Minnesota, died July 6, 2022.
She was born in Plum City Wisconsin on December 18, 1928; the twin daughter of Benjamin and Teresa (Traynor) Sagstetter. Berniece grew up on a farm, and her home was a common “camp ground” during the summer months for her city cousins. She attended the one room grade school at Exile Wisconsin for eight years. In 1947 she graduated from the Elmwood High School with honors. She then continued with under graduate studies at St. Francis School of Nursing and Viterbo College in La Crosse Wisconsin, after which she worked for many years in various health care services. Berniece’s favorite form of recreation was dancing, and dance she did! The Prom ballroom is Saint Paul Minnesota was the usual meeting place for her and her friends.
On August 8, 1959 Berniece married Elmer Marte at the Sacred Heart church in Saint Paul Minnesota. Her life was then devoted to her husband and raising their daughter, Mary, and step-son, Donald. She was a stay at home mom and enjoyed the many tasks of home making; cooking, sewing, and gardening. Later in life, to refresh herself, she did a little traveling, but she never stayed away too long, for she soon learned that HOME was the “eighth wonder of the world”.
Above everything else, Berniece appreciated her faith. She found it to be a great source of strength on this earthly journey. Reading about the lives of the Saints offered her inspiration and enjoyment.
Berniece is survived by her daughter Mary (Michael) Doheny; granddaughter Brenna Rose Butzer; step-son Donald; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years Elmer; parents Benjamin and Teresa; twin sister Beatrice Axelsen; sisters Florence and Evelyn; and her brother Ambrose.
May the Merciful Jesus grant peace to all our dear departed loved ones.
