Beverly Jeanne Agnew Skoglund died in Stillwater, MN on May 16, 2018. Beverly was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Stanley Ardell Skoglund and both her parents, brother, Lee George Agnew and sister, Winifred (Agnew) Korbel.
Bev was born on March 3,1934 in Wahpeton, North Dakota to Lila Polly Dix Ball and Lee Emerson Agnew. Bev was the youngest of three children. She attended Wahpeton High School and after graduation attended Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. for 2 years followed by University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She received a degree in journalism.
Bev began her career as a TV personality with the Bev and Bill Show at WDAY-TV in 1954 which was the first year of TV in North Dakota. The show ran until the late 50's. Beverly married Stanley Ardell Skoglund December 19, 1954. They had two children, Kirsten was born in 1958 and Polly Dix was born in 1961.
After her brief television career, Bev began teaching high school. Her first job was in Wrenshall, MN and then shortly after began teaching English and Journalism in Cloquet, MN where she was affectionally referred to as "Sarge."
In 1972 Stan and Bev moved to Marine on St. Croix, Mn where Bev began teaching at Stillwater High School. She taught english and was the advisor for the school's year book, The Kabekonian. She worked closely with Stanley Hubbard from KSTP to produce the first all student produced Video Yearbook in the state. She was known for her straightforward, no nonsense teaching style and many have called her their best teacher ever.
After she retired from Stillwater High School she was instrumental in beginning the Stillwater Partnership Plan which continues today providing the staff of District 834 opportunities to enhance the education provided to all students in the district.
Bev was an avid knitter, she loved fiber, she attended the University of Minnesota and was awarded a Masters in Textiles. Bev was interested in everything! Her dream was to be a writer and wrote for the Stillwater Gazette and the Phoenix Republic newspapers. Whatever she put her mind to she did, and was very successful.
Bev was very proud of her 5 grandchildren and when she was able, enjoyed spending time and teaching them that they could do whatever they put their minds to also.
Bev is survived by her two daughters, Kirsten Skoglund and Polly Dix (Kevin) Hart, grandchildren Hannah (Pedro) Reyes, Ian (Meagan) Rollwitz, Connor Hart, Kendall Hart, and Duncan Hart. Private services and burial were held at Oakland Cemetery in Marine on St. Croix, Mn.
