BJ "Benjamin Jerome" Larkins
March 4, 1946 - June 6, 2024
BJ Larkins was born to Robert and Susie Short Larkins on March 4, 1946, in Collinston, Louisiana. He was the eighth of nine children.
BJ was raised in the country where his parents were farmers. He and his siblings worked long hours alongside their parents. Growing up, BJ went to church, learned to hunt, fish, and repair cars-his passion. In 1967, he graduated from Union High School.
He took pride in earning a living to provide for his family. BJ, retired from Federal Cartridge Corporation after over 30 years. In 1970, BJ married his high school sweetheart, Jessie Mae Winfield.
BJ had four children: Temphy Rochelle, Stephen, Stacy, Sedric. He was a jack of all trades, and a dedicated father BJ instilled in his children life lessons, moral values, and human decency. He engaged them in activities he enjoyed. In addition, they enjoyed grilling and cooking, boat rides, camping, fair visits, and visiting relatives in Louisiana. After the sudden and devastating loss of his two sons and wife, Stacy became his confidant and primary caretaker.
To his family he was the "legend" BJ loved small talk and pleasing others. He was strong-willed and had no problem speaking his mind and putting you in your place. He often hauled his custom-made Bar B Que grill to cook for family events. When he was cooking - you had to stay out of his way and be ready for all his stories. All of which we will miss along with his smile, back-breaking hugs, good spirit, and dedication to his family.
BJ entered eternal life on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at age 78. His memories will live forever in our hearts and minds. For Legends never die.
