Blia Lor

This is my story.

My name is Blia Thao Lor. I was born in the province of Xiengkhouang, Laos, on October 09, 1919. My parents were Mr. and Mrs. Shoua Tou Thao. My parents had five children: Chong Moua Thao, Blia Thao, Eng Thao, Chee Thao, and Xa Thao. I was the second oldest child of my siblings.

I was married to Nyiaj Thoj Lis and we had three children together: daughter Thao Mee Lee, son Chong Moua Lor, and daughter Chee Lor.

After Nyiaj Thoj Lis passed away, I married Zoov Pov Lauj and had five children with him: daughter Mylo Lor, daughter Mai Chue Lor, daughter Ka Lor, son Tou Lee Lor, and daughter Mai Ker Lor. Sadly, I lost both Mai Chue Lor and Tou Lee Lor due to illness. In 1975, my husband Zoov Pov Lor also died and took a part of my strength with him. Despite the hardship of being a widow facing with loneliness, poverty, war, hunger, and deaths, I was blessed to have a long and healthy life.

In July 1979, my surviving children and I crossed over to Thailand. Eventually, we made it to America in May 1980 and resettled in Fort Wayne, Indiana, until 1982. We then made the journey to Fresno.

More tragedies ensued me. My daughters Thao Mee Lee and Chee Lor, son Chong Moua Lor and daughter-in-law Chee Xiong all passed away in 2013; my daughter Mylo Lor also passed away in 2015.

I made the best decision of my life in 2017 when I gave my life to Jesus and accepted Him as my Lord and Savior. I was baptized in 2017.

In January 2020, I believed it was the will of God that I move to Minnesota with my youngest daughter. With God's love, I had been blessed with peace and lived to the fullness of my 103 years with my surviving daughter, Mai Ker Lor and my son-in-law John Vang and their family.

In addition, I was still blessed to have my second daughter, Ka Lor and son-in-law Pa Xue Thao in Thailand. I just wished we could be closer together, too.

As I was near the sunset of my life at the age of 103, I was blessed to see my 46 grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Our Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother and Great-Great-Grandmother Blia Thao Lor, went home peacefully to our Creator of Life on February 26, 2023, in Minneapolis, MN. We are blessed to have our mother live to the fullness of age on this earth. She was 103 years old. Kuv hlub koj os kuv niam.

My dear Mother, you will be deeply missed by all of us!  Rest in peace, Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Great-Great- Grandma!

“For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last He will stand upon on the earth; And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see God…”
