Age 74, of Stillwater, MN, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on January 4, 2025, after a hard-fought two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Bruce was born March 3, 1950, in St. Paul, to Harry Wagner Jr. and Carrie Wagner. The family soon moved to Brainerd, but he spent much of his youth in Park Rapids. He graduated in 1968 from Park Rapids High School, where he excelled on the football and wrestling teams. He went on to study at Concordia College in Moorhead, where he played football for the Cobbers and graduated with a degree in Religion & Divinity in 1972.
Bruce began his 44-year career with State Farm in 1980 and was a dedicated agent in Roseville until his death. Known for his loyalty and genuine care for his clients, he lived out the company’s motto—“like a good neighbor.” His exceptional service earned him numerous accolades, a testament to the trust and respect he cultivated within his community.
Bruce adored his wife Leslie, with whom he enjoyed 18 years of marriage. In addition to being his beloved life partner, Leslie also spent many years as his irreplaceable partner in business. Together, they loved traveling the world, including many vacations in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, driving through the American Southwest, as well as an extended visit to Portugal, among many other memorable trips. A particularly special trip was to Playa del Carmen, Mexico, with all their children in the summer of 2024.
Bruce was a devoted father and a man of profound love and generosity who was known for “showing up” for the people in his life. His expansive view of family extended beyond his own children to include his cherished stepchildren, honorary kids, grandchildren, former partners, extended family, and countless close friends. Bruce's warmth touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He will be remembered for his love of cooking and entertaining; passion for woodworking, crafting, and home improvement; traveling near and far; and making friends wherever he went.
Bruce is survived by wife Leslie; children Natalie Wagner (Matt Lewis), Mara Jezior (Cameron Bright, plus a grandson on the way), and Bryan Zilar; stepchildren Sarah Coradetti, Samuel Coradetti (Lori Huberman), and Laura Coradetti; grandchildren Oliver and Henry Lanz; sisters Sandy Jones (Lanny), Carolyn James (Chris), and Shelley Kendall (John); and numerous extended family members.
Bruce is preceded in death by father Harry, mother Carrie, and brothers Denny and Ken.
