Burton Lee Smith, born March 20, 1930, died October 14, 2004 of liver cancer at his home. He died knowing he was loved, surrounded by his children and his beloved dog, Showne. Preceded in death by parents, Netha Hackbarth and Otto K. Smith. Survived by children, Nancy (Dennis) Wolf, Pam (Bernie) Assemany, Randee (Paul) Gerold, Wendy (Thad Braulick) Smith, Lisa (Bill Hite, Jr.) Smith, Kam (Joanne) Smith, Stephanie (John) James and Danelle Pirella; brothers, Lanny (Karin) and Vernon (Betty); ex-wife, Carmen Smith; grandchildren, Courtney, David, Madalynn, Hallie, Carmen, Kelsi, Emily, Reuben and Jack. Burton was born in Newton, IA and attended Roosevelt High School, the University of MN and the University of MN Law School. His career started at Conweb Corp., where he was a salesman for 17 years. He lived in White Bear Lake, Duluth, Bloomfield Hills, MI, Minnetonka (where he was very involved in Little League) and finally, Minneapolis. Later in life, Burton sold real estate and volunteered as reading tutor for Minneapolis Public Schools. He has passed on, but will live forever in many hearts. Go amongst them!
