Carl Backer

Passed away unexpectedly following surgery on December 23, 2011, age 83. Preceded in death by son, Steven. Survived by loving and caring wife of 56 years, Mary Ann; daughter, Wendy Francis (Jim); surrogate grandchildren, Lauren Janey, Chelsea Tollefson (Casey), Deepa, Priya, and Joseph Selvam, and Little Miss Preia Jones. Star Tribune employee for 46 years. U.S. Navy veteran. Carl was a kind and wonderful man who was loved by all who knew him. Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, 10:30 A.M. at THE CHURCH OF ST ALBERT THE GREAT, corner of E. 29th St. and 32nd Ave. S. Visitation one hour prior to Mass at the church. Burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
