Died September 14, 2012 in St. Croix Falls, WI. Born in Stillwater on December 22, 1915 to Gustav and Martha Kelm. She graduated from Stillwater High School in 1935. She later graduated from Winona State Teachers College with a teaching degree. Carol taught school for a few years then enlisted in the U.S. Army Women's Medical Corp. where she completed nurses training, specializing in physical therapy. Carol served her country during 3 wars, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. While she was stationed in Japan, she treated victims of the atomic bombs. She traveled the world extensively serving in the Far East, Europe and numerous army hospitals throughout the continental United States. Carol retired to her home in Lake Elmo in 1966. She enjoyed her volunteer work at various nursing homes. The most important day of the year for Carol was opening day of bass fishing where she was on the lake at 4 AM. She spent most of her leisure time fishing, which was her first love. Carol was a life member of The Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 323, Stillwater, Minnesota. Survivors include her niece, JoAnn (Raphael) Zilge of Hudson and nephew, David (Janice) Carlson of Stillwater. A graveside service with military honors will be at a later date at Fairview Cemetery
