Cheryl Yvonne Trostle, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025, in her family home in Stillwater, Minnesota. She was born on May 20, 1947, to Norma and Thomas Montpetit, and her journey through life was marked by love, laughter, and an unwavering spirit that touched everyone she met. Once you made Cheryl as a friend she was your friend for life.
Cheryl’s life was marked by her unwavering dedication to family, friends, and her work. She graduated from Stillwater High School in 1965. She worked in admitting at St Mary’s Hospital in Minneapolis and worked summers in a canning factory in Illinois before pursuing her passion for communication and service, enrolling at 916 to become an American Sign Language interpreter. This career choice reflected her commitment to helping others and her belief in the power of connection. She left this career to pursue her deeper passion of caring for her daughter.
In February of 1987, she began working at Andersen Windows, where she remained until her retirement in 2011. Cheryl often described her job in a humorous light, saying, "I make sure my team has their parts to get their orders out." Those who worked with her fondly recall how she brightened the workplace with her infectious laugh and amazing smile, and that she just might have enjoyed playing with highlighters a little too much.
Cheryl’s commitment extended beyond her professional life. She was a devoted volunteer, particularly passionate when it came to supporting her daughter Donette, from being a girl scout leader, a soccer mom, a district cookie leader and especially during her theatre performances at the Phipps. Cherished for her role as a stage mom, she affectionately earned the nickname “Sarge,” reflecting her supportive yet spirited nature. Cheryl was deeply involved with the community, embodying the essence of selflessness and dedication.
Cheryl's personal life was equally fulfilling. On July 2, 1992, she married the love of her life, Mike Trostle, and together they enjoyed 33 years of companionship, growth, and joy. They enjoyed many trips together including several to Denver to visit with his family. She loved visiting the mountains and growing her family to include his seven brothers and sisters.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Montpetit, her brother, Perry Montpetit, and her cherished nephew, Jordan Montpetit. These losses were profound, but Cheryl carried with her the love and memories of her family throughout the remainder of her life. She is survived by her loving husband, Mike, along with her cherished family members: daughter, Donette Dawson, her amazing dog, Mylo; mother, Norma Montpetit; brother, Marc (Patty); sister, Renee; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Cheryl fought bravely against bladder cancer, a challenge that she faced with grace and courage until her final days. Her love for life and her infectious spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
The family invites all who knew and loved Cheryl to join them in celebrating her remarkable life. A funeral service will be held at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center on January 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Visitation one hour prior to service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to assist with funeral expenses.
Cheryl will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know her. Rest in peace, dear Cheryl, and thank you for sharing your beautiful light with the world.
