Dale Johnson

d. October 24, 2016

Dale was born in Van Nuyes, California on July 15, 1941, son of Douglas and Myrtle (Meyer) Johnson. He lived in California until age five when the family moved to the Sidney, Montana area. After graduating from Sidney High School, he received his Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from Montana State University in Bozeman. He valued education throughout his life, and at age 54 achieved an MBA at St. Thomas.
It was during his high school days that he met Gladys Ulshafer. They fell in love and married on June 9, 1962. Dale got his first job as an engineer at Honeywell, so the couple moved to Hopkins, Minnesota. On August 7, 1963, their first son, Troy, was born. Two years later, they built a new home in New Brighton where Dale worked for Control Data. Their second son Trent was born on August 12, 1965. Another son, Truitt, was born on October 3, 1970.
Dale was an excellent problem solver - at work, at home, and for others. He had the ability to take a floundering company and set it on a straight course. His and Gladys's lives' journey took them to Fargo, ND, Wahpeton ND, Mankato MN, Glencoe MN, Owatonna MN, North Hudson WI, and Mission TX.
In addition to their biological family, they were host parents of five foreign exchange students: Matthias and Sibylle BrAhlmeier (Switzerland), Larraitz Ariznabarreta and Juan Pablo Urruticoechea (Spain), and Felix Hauck (Germany).
Dale had a passion for learning, which led him and Gladys to travel all over the world, learning about other cultures and people. Those experiences filled his heart and mind with joy and adventure.
Making friends and being a friend others could count on was important to Dale. This was true throughout his life, at home and abroad.
So much like his studies of the lands and people he would see on his trips, Dale loved to travel through the Bible. He had a very personal relationship with His Heavenly Father. Bible studies were important to Dale. In addition to food for his soul, he studied the people involved, their families, and the history of who they were and how they got where they were; adding extra depth to all he shared.
Dale passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016 in Big Bend National Park in Texas, doing what he loved, traveling across the country in the motor home with his bride.
Surviving him are: his wife Gladys; two sons Trent (Shawne) and Truitt (Kristina), daughter-in-law Lois "Jo", brother Douglas, sisters Beverly Jobin and Cheryl Nelson, grandchildren Nicole Kaye-Skinner (Andrew), Michelle Dudzik (Chris), Dana, Drew, and Amethyst; and his foreign sons and daughters (exchange students.) He was preceded in death by his parents and son Troy.
