Daniel Shellberg Antrim
Age 28, passed away in Austin, TX on April 26, 2020
We are shocked and devastated by this loss. A small service was held on May 8th, 2020 at the
Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center in Stillwater. His body is buried at Rutherford cemetery, located at Manning Ave and 75 th St in rural Stillwater, MN. It is an historic, small, & peaceful place. Many people gave to the National Park Foundation in honor of Daniel, shortly after his death. The funds were used at Yosemite National Park towards the Bridalveil Fall Rehabilitation Project. We also have a bench honoring him, located near the labyrinth on the grounds of Mt Olivet Lutheran Church on Old Rockford Road in Plymouth, MN. Survived by his husband of 5 years, Jason Antrim, his parents, Jeff and Susan Shellberg, his brother, Ryan, all 4 of his grandparents, aunts , uncles and 12 cousins. Others that connected with and loved Daniel during his life include classmates, teammates, educators, church people, coworkers, and friends.
Daniel Patrick Shellberg came into this world on July 1st, 1991 at Methodist hospital in St. Louis Park, MN. He was the firstborn child of Jeff and Susan. Daniel grew up in Plymouth, MN, attended Robbinsdale district schools through 9th grade, and graduated from Providence Academy in 2010. He went on to St. Olaf College where he sang in choir for 2 years, volunteered in many ways, and obtained degrees in Chemistry and Spanish. He graduated in 2014.
During his time on earth, Daniel enjoyed outdoor activities, particularly ones where he was close to nature. He had a passion for hiking in our National Parks and was able to find peace in these surroundings. He was physically fit, enjoyed lifting weights and running. Daniel was also
an adventurous “foodie”, was good at technology, dressed to a tee and loved a good deal. He was a master at jigsaw puzzles and could complete 1,000 piece puzzles in record time. We have set up an endowment at St. Olaf College in his name. Donations will benefit a student
each year going forward.
Countless tears have been shed in the aftermath of Daniel’s death by suicide. There are many reasons for the “why” of Daniel’s death, but one important aspect is mental health. He had a lovely brain that was capable of learning, understanding, sharing, thoughtfulness and other good things, but it was not right in the end. There is help in this world for those with mental health issues. Please be brave and humble enough to seek and find that help. Though we miss him each day, we try to find meaning and joy in remembering him.
God, give strength to those that mourn Daniel and may he never be forgot.
