David Edward Emerson

Age 88, died peacefully with hospice care on June 27, 2023

David was born on June 16, 1935 to David E. and Katherine E. (Loucks) Emerson in Rockford, Illinois. 

He married Sara J. Marks in Pecatonica, Illinois on September 13, 1958. 

He enjoyed a long and loving marriage to his beloved Sara until her death in 2011.

David is survived by his children, Cheryl (Paul) Resnick of East Peoria, Illinois and Nancy J. Emerson of Moorhead,  Minnesota; grandchildren Carl and Eileen; sister (-in-law) Donna Emerson; and dear friend, Sherry Spanner.  David was a professor emeritus at St. Catherine University, teaching accounting and finance for 34 years. He devoted his career in higher education to the development of women in leadership.  David was instrumental in St. Catherine University’s Weekend College program and the Masters of Organizational Leadership.  He served in many corporate and higher education leadership positions and board roles. David was a life-long athlete, enjoying running, racquetball, and golf.  He was also a horse racing enthusiast and never missed an opportunity to spend time with family and friends.  A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater, Minnesota on Friday, July 21 at 2 p.m. with visitation beginning at 1 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church’s music fund or to the David and Sara Emerson Accounting Achievement Award at St. Catherine University.
