David Clement Harris
DECEMBER 2, 1956 – AUGUST 18, 2023
With a heavy heart and great sadness, David Clement Harris, 66 years old, of Summerfield, FL, passed away on August 18, 2023, after a long journey battling early-onset dementia/Alzheimer's. David was born December 2, 1956, to George and Mary Jane Harris in the Philippines, where he spent the first 12 years with his father's ministry and siblings. The family returned to Hazleton, PA, in 1969, where David attended high school, spending time during the summers as a lifeguard at the local YMCA and in Ocean Grove, NJ, with family. After his father's ministry again moved the family to South Dakota, David completed high school in Mobridge, SD and enrolled at Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD.
During the summer, before going to Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD, he worked for his friend Tom's father at Hardcastle Transfer and Storage In Mobridge, SD, where he got his first taste of the moving industry. At Northern State University, David was known for his "smooth voice" at the local radio station house and as a DJ at Snoopy's. During the summer breaks, David worked as a van foreman at Jobbers Moving and Storage, an Allied Van Lines agent in Aberdeen, SD. With the love of being on the road and seeing the beautiful country with his passion for taking pictures of his adventures, David became a full-time van foreman. David excelled in his profession and became part of Allied Van Lines Master Mover fleet, the highest ranking an Allied driver can achieve due to his exemplary standards in safety, his relationships with Allied Van Lines and his professional and courteous service to all his customers. Because of his high service standards, David became "Driver of the Year" in 1989. David later joined Nor-Cal Moving and Storage in San Jose, CA and maintained those high standards until his retirement in 2018.
David also loved spending time with his family and friends. He played golf with his friends coast-to-coast, looking for unique recipes to cook, spending time during the summers with his son and watching him grow up and the many cruises we took. Traveling was a passion for David. One of the cruises that come to mind was the Hawaiian islands, where we shared memorable memories with friends and his brother, Clinton, as they spent time together and snorkeled in Maui. David will be truly missed.
"The Long Goodbye" by Ellen Miller
And every night when we look up and see a certain star...
We will know within our hearts exactly where you are.
So, on this day, we say goodbye as you depart.
Although far from our touch, never far from our hearts.
"Untitled" by Amsterdamtulip
But now the mist has lifted, and in front of me, I see,
A path that is clear that will lead me back to me,
A light that is shining to guide me on my way,
And a lifetime of memories as down to rest I lay.
