David Herbstrith, 67, of Grand Rapids, MN passed away October 3 after a two-year battle with cancer. He was born August 27, 1937 in Peoria, IL and was preceded in death in 2003 by his parents Herman and Sophie. He is survived by his wife Donna with whom he shared forty-four wonderful years; sons Tim of Minneapolis and Brian of Portland, OR; daughter Krista, son-in-law Todd Orjala, and grandsons Ellis and Evan of Minneapolis; brother and sister-in-law Roland and Sue Herbstrith of Williamsville, IL; and many nieces and nephews and friends who will miss him greatly. David was employed by Illinois Bell until he and his family moved to Bloomington, MN in 1980 where he was employed by Northwestern Bell and AT&T until his retirement in 1994. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of the Communication Workers of America Local 7200. David was also a foster grandparent in the Grand Rapids Public Schools. David will forever be remembered for his devotion to his family and friends, his sense of humor, and his love of life and travel. We are diminished by our loss but will carry him with us forever. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, 10 AM at NATIVITY OF OUR LORD CATHOLIC CHURCH, Stanford at Prior, St. Paul. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Gathering Monday, 5-8 PM at BRADSHAW, 678 South Snelling at Eleanor, St. Paul, with Service at 7:30 PM. The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Kidney Cancer Association.
