Derek Young

d. August 20, 2016

Derek Zell Young was born the son of Ryan Zell and Angela Young on October 21, 2007 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was baptized into the Christian faith on December 20, 2007 at Peace Lutheran Church in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. By God's grace through that sacrament God made him his own dear child. By that same grace God kept him faithful to his Savior to the time of his death.

Derek was called from this world of sin and sorrow, sickness and pain to the joys and perfect peace of heaven early Saturday morning, August 20, 2016 at the age of 8 years and 10 months.

Derek was diagnosed with a brain tumor the day after Thanksgiving, November 27, 2015. Because of it's location, surgeons were not able to remove the entire malignant tumor. The cancer was found to be a very rare cancer. Though the amazing medical team tried everything they know of to treat it, the cancer continued to spread throughout the brain and down into his spine. Derek suffered little to no pain.

This happy little boy, who loved people and was loved by people, is survived by his Mom and Dad and sister Kate, many relatives and countless friends whose lives he touched.
