Dolores Sogge

May 11, 1930 — January 25, 2025

Dolores Ann Sogge (née Mackay), age 94, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 25th, 2025. She was born in Cumberland, WI on May 11th, 1930 - the firstborn child of John and Fena Mackay. The world became a happier, more loving place that day. After graduating from Cumberland High School, Dolores moved to the big city of Minneapolis. While waiting tables at a local coffee shop, she was smitten by a stoic, quiet master electrician named Martin who would stop by the diner after work most days. Dolores and Marty married in 1953; together they raised two sons. When their youngest son went to school, Dolores became a school cook and baker in the Columbia Heights Schools. She served her legendary baked goods - caramel pecan rolls, cinnamon bread, all variety of cookies and more - to students and staff for many years. She was a wonderful storyteller, voracious reader, creative crafter, and quilter, who never stopped embracing new learning experiences. She had the rare ability to love with her whole heart and made each and every person feel like they were the most important person in her life. A lifelong optimist, Dolores was an outgoing, caring, wonderful daughter, sister, wife, aunt, niece, cousin, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, co-worker, and friend.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years Martin Sogge, her brother William "Bud" Mackay and her sister Catherine Redetzke, she is survived by her sister Pat Middleton, her son Dave (Leslie) Sogge, her son Phil (Cecile) Sogge, her granddaughter Jessica (David) Biddle, her grandson Justin (Nicole) Sogge, her grandson Lucas (Abby) Sogge, her great-grandchildren Beau, Anne, Lauryn and Logan and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 17th at 10:00 AM CST until the memorial service begins at 11:00 AM CST at Nativity Lutheran Church, located at 3312 Silver Lake Road, St. Anthony, MN 55418; luncheon to follow after the service.

The family would like to thank the nurses, aides and staff of Chandler Place, where Dolores lived for more than nine years. They loved Dolores, shared their lives with her, and helped her enjoy every moment of her super senior's life in their assisted living community.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to honor Dolores are preferred to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or donor's choice.
