Kerner, Donald D.
Age 77, of Fridley, passed peacefully on November 22 at home.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Ann (Susie).
He is survived by his children; Cheryl Ann, Richard Dean (Gwen) and Joseph Alan, and grandchildren Ross and Wade Kerner, and sister Delores Rasmussen.
Don was born and raised in Medina, ND along with his sister, Dee, by Reno and Rosie Kerner.
He loved horses and hunting and fishing.
After graduating high school, he taught school in Chase Lake for three years before enlisting with the Marines.
Don reached the rank of Corporal before being honorably discharged in 1954. He returned to ND and married Susie before moving to Minneapolis the same year.
He was employed as a bricklayer and stone mason over the next several decades while he raised his children with his wife.
His greatest work accomplishments that he was very proud of are the former Federal Reserve Bank in Mpls., the Pillsbury Center, the Carlson Towers, the original Medtronic facility in Fridley and several buildings he helped construct in Georgia, Texas and Arizona.
His passion for his craft and teaching led him to instructing new apprentices in the art of brick and block laying at North Hennepin Vo-Tech for several years.
Memorial service will be 2:00PM Friday, 11/28/2008 at PILGRIM UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 4325 Zachary Lane North, Plymouth, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the hospice of choice.
