Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many.
Passed away peacefully on January 14, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents Ole and Ingeborg Rovick, and brother Oscar.
She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Wallace “Wally”; daughters, Jean Hanson (Mary Gearin), Judy Kelly (Mike) and Janet DeGidio (Joe); grandchildren, Shawn Kelly and Erin Olafson (Jacob); great-grandsons, Will and Gavin. Also survived by nieces and nephews, cousins (both in Norway and the U.S.) and many friends.
Doris was born in Minneapolis, graduated from Roosevelt High School (’52), Augsburg College (’57), and was married 6 days later. She was a social worker with the City of Minneapolis Relief Dept, and later worked at Augsburg Publishing/Fortress, retiring in 1997. Moved to Vadnais Heights in 1998, then resided at Gable Pines Memory Care as of August 2023.
Long time member of both St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in South Minneapolis and Redeemer Lutheran Church in White Bear Lake. Doris will be remembered for being a gracious hostess and dedicated volunteer until her mid-eighties. She was known for making delicious Norwegian cookies, kransekake and lefse. She was a sweet woman of faith who also had a quick wit and enjoyed playing Skip-Bo and Phase 10. She deeply loved her family and friends, and had many wonderful times at their cabin in Crosslake, MN.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Friday, January 26 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3770 Bellaire Ave, White Bear Lake, with visitation one hour prior, and luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Redeemer Lutheran Church or charity of choice.
