Obituary for Doris M. Krell
Just before midnight on Nov. 9, 2014 the earthly life of Doris Marie Ericson Krell came to an end in Stillwater, Minnesota. Our mother Doris had just celebrated her 95th birthday after a long and full life.
As one of 2 daughters of Swedish immigrants to America, Doris was the daughter of Ellen Gustafson Ericson and Raynold Leonard Ericson. She was born on Oct. 24th. 1919 in Ironwood, Michigan and lived there until leaving for Ferris State College where she earned a Bachelor's degree in business. It was there that she met and married Walter E. Krell shortly before his deployment overseas in World War II. The couple had one daughter, Mary Ellen (Krell) Planten and lived in the Detroit area for many years. Following the death of her husband, Doris returned to Ironwood where she lived for more than 10 years before relocating to the St. Croix Valley to be near her daughter and son-in-law Albertjan Planten Vanafton. During this final chapter of her life, she lived at Becketwood in Minneapolis and most recently at Boutwell's Landing in Stillwater.
Doris had many friends throughout her life and was always regarded as bright, witty and interested in those around her. She was a talented seamstress and loved the many hours she spent volunteering at the American Swedish Institute where she was a Life Member. She was active in PEO and Eastern Star and greatly treasured her upbringing in the Swedish Covenant Church.
She will be missed by her friends and family and celebrated for what she brought to this world.

A gathering in her honor will be held in the chapel at Boutwell's Landing, 5600 Norwich Parkway, Oak Park Heights, MN 55082 on Saturday, Nov. 22 from 12-1:30. Light refreshments will be served.
