Dorothy (Mestad) Murray, a bright spirit beloved by many, passed away peacefully in Stillwater, MN on January 8, 2021.
She is survived by husband Bill Murray, children Kim Klisch-Baudoin (Roger), Brian Baudoin (Crystal), step-children Michael Murray (Katy), Michelle Murray-Gilbertsen, Rudy Murray (Erin), brothers Mike Mestad (Carol) and Dan Holtorf (Colleen), grandchildren: Erin, Naomi, Rachel, Megan, Linda, Peyton, Murray, Adam, Moya, Gannon, great-grandchildren: Kaylee, December, Maya, and many nieces and nephews.
Dottie was born and raised in southeastern MN and spent most of her childhood on her grandparents’ farm. After the early loss of her parents, her grandparents were very important to her. Their love and kindness, along with the support of her five siblings, helped her develop into a sensitive woman with a vibrant joy in living, a steadfast positive attitude, and tremendous strength and spiritual wisdom in the face of life’s challenges.
While raising a family in Hastings, Dottie’s creativity shined in her home decorating, fashion, and fun ideas for spending time with her children. She had a weekly radio show, “Potpourri,” on KDWA. She later worked at Dakota County Area Vocational Technical Institute as its public relations director.
After marriage to Bill, she moved to Nebraska and completed a bachelor’s degree in art. Her black and white photography won several awards at a local art center. She and Bill enjoyed gourmet cooking, traveling, gardening, and the company of friends.
A move back to MN led to getting her real estate license. She facilitated both residential and commercial transactions in Hastings and St. Paul. Being back in MN also brought many opportunities to gather with children and grandchildren. She made every holiday sparkle. Her final years were marked by a love for quiet simplicity and beauty in all its forms.
A memorial service will be held in the spring. Memorial gifts may be sent to Lakeview Hospital Foundation in Stillwater.
