Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Obermiller and Lydia Obermiller (nee Haberman); siblings, Vernon (Cordelia) Obermiller, Delmar (Laverne) Obermiller, and Harvey (Lehanna) Obermiller.
They are survived by their children, David Schindler, Susan (Joseph) Peittersen; grandchildren, David Schindler II and Isabel Schindler, Ryan Lawrence and Kyle (Alex Bohl) Lawrence, Lydia Peittersen; great-grandchildren, Colt Lawrence, Tucker Hopp, Bentley Lawrence, and Baby Girl Lawrence on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was raised in St. Cloud and Bill grew up in St. Joseph, Minnesota. Bill enlisted in the US Navy at age 17 shortly before the Korean Conflict started. After years of letter-writing and the after Bill ended his military service, Dorothy and Bill married in 1953. They moved first to Richfield and started their careers, Dorothy as an office administrator and Bill as an auditor for the US Department of Agriculture. They then moved to the Kansas City area, where each continued their careers and waited patiently for children getting their training with their numerous nieces and nephews. They adopted their children (David & Susan) and shortly after they returned to Minnesota, where they raised their family and remained in Apple Valley.
Family was center of their lives, in the 20 years waiting to adopt their children, they were especially attentive to their nieces and nephews and extended family. They were loving parents and encouraged their kids in every endeavor, and taught by example that family is first by attending every immediate and extended family event (weddings, funerals, graduations, birthdays, etc.) and maintaining communication with all their nieces and nephews till they took their last breath. Family was their hobby.
