Douglas Ten Eyck
Surrounded by family, Douglas Ten Eyck Berg passed peacefully into God's waiting arms on February 17, 2016. Born June 17, 1930 in Taylors Falls Minnesota, Doug grew up exploring the St. Croix River Valley with his brother and working in his parents' businesses. Doug moved to Stillwater to finish high school and then attended the University of Minnesota graduating with his bachelors of business administration degree in 1952. He served in the United States Air Force and saw active duty at the cessation of the Korean War as a navigator on overnight reconnaissance flights.
He met the love of his life Aggie Jean Poston, a young schoolteacher in Sumter South Carolina while stationed in the Air Force there. He and Aggie planned a wedding in just five weeks and married on April 2, 1955 in Aggie's hometown church in Kingsburg, South Carolina and enjoyed a faithful union of over 60 years. Doug excelled in the field of information technology and was the original chief information officer of CH Robinson, a global trucking and logistics company. Doug and Aggie have four children and they grew up camping, gardening, and enjoying every sport imaginable. Doug was a committed Christian and was active in Lutheran Churches in his communities.
Upon retirement, Doug and Aggie returned to South Carolina, the state in which they had met. They enjoyed their retirement years in Pawleys Island canvassing the beach, actively participating in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, hosting family beach vacation and enjoying the beauty of the South Carolina Low country. An avid gardener, Doug was happiest when he was tending to his flowers in his garden and enjoying his 10 grandchildren. Doug served as a docent at Brookgreen Gardens was an active participant in the senior scholars program.
Doug is survived by his loving wife Aggie, his four children - Jeanne, Bradley, David and Steven; loving daughters-in-laws; 10 grandchildren and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Ruben and Mae Berg and his brother Charles.
A funeral service will be held in Doug's hometown of Stillwater, Minnesota on February 27, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 115 N. 4th Street at 11 AM with visitation beginning at 10 AM. A reception at the church will follow the services and a private interment service will be held on Monday. In lieu of flowers, donations are kindly requested to be sent to Brookgreen Gardens.
