Douglas Bergmann

d. January 30, 2012

Our father, grandfather, and husband, Douglas Martin Bergmann, Son of Hilda (Hopkins) and Edwin Bergmann, died Monday, January 30th, 2012. Born in Minneapolis, MN, April 28th, 1931, Doug the youngest of three children attended Minneapolis schools, St. Cloud Teachers College, and was a veteran serving on the USS GWIN (DM-33) 1951, 1952. He managed offices for Public Finance MN, IA, and IL and completed his career as Executive Vice President of the Galesburg Credit Bureau and Collection Agency.
His political and civic leadership included President of the Knox County Young Republican's Club; Commissioner of the Knox County Board and the Sheriff's committee; Township Supervisor; district chairman with the Boy Scouts of America; president of the Associated Credit Bureaus of Illinois; and president of the Galesburg Kiwanis club. He was an active member of Galesburg Alpha Masonic Lodge No, 155 and Stillwater's St. Johns Lodge No. 1 attaining the 32nd Degree of the Scottish Rite.
On his retirement in 1995 Doug moved to Stillwater, Minnesota so that he and his wife, Connie, could live near their children.
Hunting and fishing were his lifelong passions. With his dog Goldie as his companion, he spent many weekends with close friends and business colleagues, sons, and finally granddaughters hunting quail and pheasant and fishing for trout, bass, crappie and walleye. Not to be slowed down, he recently went hunting with Scott using a 4x4 to get to the birds. As a garnish to the wild game, Doug always grew tomatoes and green beans in his gardens.
In the 1970s he earned his private pilots license, flew Cessna airplanes, and hung around the Galesburg Airport and the Stearman Fly-in.
Doug was active in his Christian faith singing in church choirs from the 1940s through 1990s, teaching Sunday school and serving on the Church Council of Trinity Lutheran Church, Galesburg Il.
Doug was preceded in death by his older siblings William Begin and Georgiana Begin Johnson and his beloved daughter Tracey (Bergmann) Hill. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Constance Louise (Neseth) Bergmann and by the families of his children: (son) Scott and Agma Bergmann of S St Paul, (son-in-Law) Steve Hill of Apple Valley, and (son) Curt and Susan Bergmann of St Paul; granddaughters, Genevieve (Bergmann) Brau and Husband Christopher Brau, Angela (Bergmann) Kassube and Husband Anthony Kassube, Kirsten Hill, Siri Hill, Rebecca Bergmann and Elizabeth Bergmann; great-grandchildren Eva Hill, Andrew Martin Kassube and Alexander Douglas Brau.
