Douglas "Doug" Johnson

The family of Douglas "Doug" Johnson sadly announces his passing on August 24, 2024, at the age of 79 after a brief battle with cancer. Doug is lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Doreen; children, Jennifer (Pete) Tholen, Jeremy (Jessica Nunez); grandchildren, Quintin, Makenna, Bailey, Gabriella, and Isabelle; sister and brother-in law, Jeanne and Alan Nordstrom; sisters-in-law, Sharon Laingen, Fern Laingen; and numerous other family members and friends.

Doug was a graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead and the University of Minnesota Law School; he earned his legal degree after serving proudly in the United States Army. His legal career began in Wadena, Minnesota, where he had a private practice and later became part-time Wadena City Attorney; ten years later, he was elected Wadena County Attorney. Doug joined the Washington County Attorney's office in 1986 and started the Juvenile Division in 1987. He was elected Washington County Attorney in 1998 and continued in that position until his retirement in 2011.

Doug demonstrated his strong belief in serving his profession, church and the Stillwater community by being an active member of the Board of Directors of the Minnesota County Attorney's Association for 11 years, serving on the Trinity Lutheran Church Council for six years and the Saint Paul Area ELCA Synod Council for six years, accepting leadership positions for the successful bond referendums for the current high school and Rutherford Elementary in Stillwater, and so on.

Doug's time with his family was always his favorite pastime; however, he also enjoyed reading, Civil War history, bridge, and golf. Doug will be remembered for his professionalism, belief in justice for all, unique sense of humor, kindness, and desire to make a positive impact.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 11 am with visitation at 10 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1154 4th St. N., Stillwater. Lunch will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church, Our Lady of Peace Hospice, Valley Outreach, or donor's choice.
