Douglas Young

Age 89, of St. Paul Born November 27, 1919 Died November 7, 2009 surrounded by family until the end. Doug left this world three weeks short of his 90th birthday. A near-lifelong resident of Saint Paul, he was a graduate of Mechanic Arts High School and Macalester College. He enlisted in the U.S. Army before Pearl Harbor and served through the end of the war in the Pacific. He was also a proud Korean Conflict veteran. Preceded in death by father, William; mother, Lily; sister, Cecelia and brother, Alex. Survived by loving wife of nearly 60 years, Marjorie; and children, Nancy (Dan) Young-Dixon, Susan (Steve) Morley and David (Susan); grandchildren, Keely, Elizabeth, Sam, Brendan, Anna (Peter), Paul, Gus, Meghan, Kate and Jonathan; great-grandson, Evan, and brother's immediate family Lois and Kathy. Doug worked in a number of public service positions which included time in Governor Levander's office, in the Saint Paul Schools Superintendent's office and for the State of Minnesota. He never forgot the rule that all politics are local. He loved his time at Lake McFarland in Minnesota's Arrowhead and his many post-war return trips to the Big Island of Hawaii. Most of all, he loved his family and especially loved family get-togethers where he could see all (or at least as many as possible) of his grandchildren and his great grandson all under one roof. Private interment ceremony at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 13 at 2:00 PM at HOUSE OF HOPE CHURCH, 797 Summit Avenue, Saint Paul.
