Norman Arthur Torgerson
Norm was the first born son of Evelyn and Sigurd Torgerson in Duluth, Minnesota. His birth was followed by those of Donald, Beverly and Mark. His Mom and Dad shaped a strong, solid family with good Christian values.
As a young man, growing up, Scouting was important and he was very proud to have earned his Eagle Scout Award. He was interested in sports and participated as a ski jumper. After high school he went on to UMD and earned a teaching degree which took him to Flint, Michigan. Longing for family and Lake Superior he returned to Minnesota to work as an educator for 3M Corporation. With many new friends and workmates, his skiing expertise expanded to downhill and cross country.
Moving to Woodbury, MN to be closer to 3M, led Norm to meet "Peggy Person on Ivy Street." They were married 10 months later in June of 1974. Together they built their dream home in Stillwater and enjoyed a very good life together. Through the years, they were able to travel far and near, but especially liked returning to Duluth for family, swimming and water skiing. For years, they were ardent tent campers, all beginning with their 2 week "camping" honeymoon to Glacier National Park and surrounding areas.
Norm's interest in all things "fast," was obvious in his love of cars, motorcycles, airplanes and boats; yet he loved the serenity of a quiet hike in the woods, developing his own park on their property in Stillwater. "Leaving the world better" was his mantra. That led to the planting of over 4000 trees on their property to benefit all of nature. He joked that he and Peggy had a "farmette" with the garden, small flock of sheep, dogs and cats.
Norm followed in his dad's footsteps and along with his brothers, he was an avid hunter. It was not just during hunting season that either Hunter or Ruger, his beloved labs, were by his side. They were his constant companions.
A lifelong interest in natural health and healing led him to pursue a career as a Chiropractic physician. Going back to school after many years was a challenge and he persevered. He practiced in Stillwater until retirement.
Norm had a lifelong quest for knowledge and continued to seek out new areas of study right up to his first stroke. Being "one tough Norwegian," he channeled his energy in his post stroke recovery and was proud of his regained life skills. He was ever respectful to all of his patients, his care providers and his family. His big smile and contagious laughter will live on always. He was bigger than life for his wife, family and friends.
God brought Norm to his heavenly home on June 26, 2015, at the age of 72 years. Preceded in death by parents, Evelyn and Sigurd. Survived by Peggy, wife of 41 years; sister, Beverly; brothers, Donald (Suzanne) and Mark; and several nieces and nephews.
