Johnson, Stanley Cleveland 66, died peacefully on Sept. 7th. Predeceased by his wife, Regina, he is survived by sisters Roberta Duggan of Fairmont, MN, Susan Motl (Bill) of Arizona, nephews, and nieces. He is dearly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues. Stanley was born in Mankato, graduated from St John's University, and earned his doctorate in psychology at the University of St Thomas. He worked as a psychotherapist for Health Partners for 32 years until he was diagnosed with a terminal cancer in April of 2019. His work with clients held unceasing deep interest and meaning for Stanley. He had a passionate interest in phenomenology and in understanding the workings of the human mind. This interest led him first to the study and practice of Buddhism, and later to an interest in the Japanese art of tea ceremony. For over 20 years he was an active member of Common Ground Meditation Center and the Tergar Meditation Community. Stanley was a life-long runner. He met many interesting people on his regular runs along the River Road that he loved. He was an avid reader of many non-fiction books, and enjoyed good food, wine, music, poetry, and photography. His home and garden were his sanctuary where he surrounded himself with beautiful religious and art objects he collected. He is remembered for his kindness and care for others. A Celebration of Stanley's Life will be held at Common Ground Meditation Center on November 16th at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, he encouraged donations to: Common Ground Meditation Center, Tergar Meditation Community, or Church of the Incarnation.
