Duane (Dewey) Carl Roettger
Passed away Monday, March 2 surrounded by family after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease and Lewy Body Dementia. He leaves behind his beloved wife of fifty eight years, Kathleen (Kitty) Peulen Roettger, three children, Scott (Linda), of Mahtomedi, MN; Gregory (Jennifer), of Tustin, CA; Michael (Dawn), of Woodbury, MN, eight grandchildren, a brother, Roger L. Roettger, of Eagle Point, OR, and four nieces and nephews. Dewey was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was the ultimate Do-It-Yourselfer and passed a great many of those skills on to his family.
Dewey was born on June 19, 1938 in Stillwater, MN to Carl and Hazel Roettger. After graduating from Stillwater High School, he joined the Navy and served with the Sea Bees in Cuba and Puerto Rico. His service led to further education and experience in the field of Electrical Engineering.
He married Kathleen (Kitty) Peulen of Stillwater, MN on April 29, 1961. He began his 33 year career with 3M Company in 1963 and worked in Division Engineering until his retirement in 1996.
He loved the outdoors and often went on fishing and hunting trips with his three boys, fellow 3Mers, and other friends. He could frequently be found boating with his family on the St. Croix River and a wide variety of local lakes. After retirement, he took trips with Kitty to Europe, Asia, Australia, and parts of the US. One memorable trip was a cruise to the Caribbean to celebrate his 80th birthday with Greg and Mike and their young families. He kept busy at home by hiking with Kitty or his weekly group of retired 3M friends. He and Kitty had beautiful gardens that they tended together with loving care. He adored his grandchildren and would attend many of their sporting events and activities in Minnesota and California. He had a heart for community service as well and was quite active with Habitat for Humanity.
Dewey was deeply devoted to Kitty and his family. He freely gave of his time and was always willing to provide a helping hand. In the last years of his life, he looked forward to the daily “check-ins” from his sons and phone conversations with his brother Roger. His greatest gifts were his love for his family and passing on the values of hard work, integrity, and honesty to his boys.
Memorials preferred to Lewy Body Dementia Association or Parkinson's Foundation.
