Passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2010 in CA. He was born in New Richmond, WI. At age five moved to St. Paul, MN where he attended Ramsey, Groveland Park Elementary, Central High and the University of MN. He was Assistant Store Manager of S.S. Kresge's Mpls. Downtown store before joining Sears Roebuck and Co., retiring after thirty-four years as Merchandise Manager. His next ten years were spent first as a manufacturers rep for several large shoe firms and later as business consultant for them. He loved music, art, dancing, golf and football.
Mr. Benson had four years of army service in the Pacific theater being honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant in 1946. He is a member of Hennepin Lodge #19 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite, Zuhrah Shrine and the American Legion.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Jessie Benson and sister, Verna Beske. He leaves behind 3 nephews, Michael (Janice), Patric (Marly) and Jon Beske. Also 4 great-nephews, Jason (Trisha), Darrin, Kirt (Trish) and Matthew Beske; great-great-niece and nephew, Grace and Hunter.
Earl was the love of my life and I, his wife, Dorothy, will miss him with all my heart and soul. Earl also leaves behind 5 in-laws, Rose, Grace, and James Miskovic, Judy (John) Stewart and Ruth Curtis; 2 nieces-in-law, Martine (Mark) Magro and Tracy (Mick) Szafran; and a great-nephew and niece, Ryan and Rylie Szafran.
Graveside Service will be at Lakewood Cemetery, 3600 Hennepin Avenue, Mpls., at 2 PM on Monday, August 2nd (meet at Main Gate at 1:45 PM).
