Fierke, Elizabeth A. (Betty)
Age 87 passed away on September 17, 2014. Preceded in death by siblings, Robert Rydell and Carolyn Kreuzer. Survived by husband of 62 years, Bill Fierke; daughters, Susan Fierke and Carol Fierke (Neil Tweedy); son, John (Anne Marie) Fierke; and granddaughter, Sara Tweedy.
Betty graduated from the University of Minnesota where she was president of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She received her Master's degree from the Columbia School of Social Work. After graduating, she worked as a medical social worker with crippled children. Betty and Bill moved from Minneapolis to Stillwater where they resided on Lily Lake for 50 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1957 where she served as a stewardship leader and a Sunday school teacher. She was also chairperson of the AAUW Antique Show. Betty was one of the founders of Family Service of the St. Croix Area, today known as FamilyMeans which provides counseling services. 50 years later, counseling services remain an important part of the work done with FamilyMeans, serving thousands of individuals and family households receiving counseling in mental health and financial services support each year. Betty loved gardening and tennis. She was a loving wife and wonderful mother.
Graveside Service Monday, September 22, 2014 at 1PM at Crystal Lake Cemetery, 3816 Penn Avenue North, Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to FamilyMeans.
