Emily Doherty Reitz, age 81, died at Columbia Lutheran Home in Seattle on September 27, 2004. A daughter of Patrick and Mary (Bednar) Doherty, she was born October 18, 1922 in Cedar Lake Township, Scott County, MN. Emily graduated with honors from New Prague High School, then attended business college in Minneapolis. She was a Civil Service Personnel Officer for the Air Force until her marriage to John Reitz in 1957. She raised her family in Duluth where she was an active member of the PTA, Community Action Program, League of Women Voters, and St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She received a BA in Sociology from the University of MN, Duluth. She spent her retirement years at Nokomis Square Cooperative and North Oaks on Emerson, both in Minneapolis.
Emily is survived by her sister, Valeria Dummer of Franklin, MN; her daughters, Ann Reitz of Crownpoint, NM and Rita Reitz of Kirkland, WA; and her son, Michael Reitz of Fairbanks, AK. She has three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her six brothers, Michael, Martin, Patrick, Edward, Jerome, and Joseph; and five sisters, Cecelia, Genevieve, Teresa, Veronica, and Florence; and six half-siblings, Mayme, Ella, Thomas, Margaret, and Agnes.
Service Monday 10:30 AM at CHURCH OF ST. CATHERINE, Spring Lake Township. Interment St. Catherine Cemetery. Visitation Sunday 2-4 PM at BRADSHAW (McDivitt-Hauge), 3131 Minnehaha Ave S and one hour prior to service at the church.
