Ernest R. "Ernie" Hintze
Age 77 of Chisago City, formerly of Stillwater
Passed away on December 26, 2024
Ernest R. "Ernie" Hintze age 77, peacefully passed away on December 26 with his wife, Mary, son Ernie and daughter Laura by his side.
Born June 26, 1947 to Ernest and Rita Hintze (Rossi), Ernie grew up on the east side of St. Paul. He graduated from Harding High School, class of 1965. He attended St. Paul Technical College with a degree in Electronic Technology. After 30 years, Ernie retired from the Goodin Company in St. Paul.
Ernie enjoyed the outdoors, snowmobiling with his kids, working in his greenhouse, spending time at his family's cabin in Brainerd, hunting, golfing, playing cribbage, five hundred and shanghai rummy with his family and friends.
His grandkids were the light of his life. You could see the joy in his eyes holding them when they were young, explaining to them all the things he was doing and what he would like to do with them.
After Mary retired, they spent 3 years as snowbirds in Lake Havasu. Once Ernie's health challenges became less manageable, they spent their time in Minnesota with their family. He was diagnosed with Lung cancer in 2021. He fought his cancer and other back complications and surgeries to the very end.
Mary, Ernie, and Laura would like to thank the many medical staff that took care of Ernie through the very end. Dr. Mendez and the Neurosurgery staff and Dr. Demel and the Oncology staff at HealthPartners. Without them we would not have had as much time with him as we did.
Ernie is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Rita; sister, Gina McGraw; brothers, Peter and Joseph; in-laws Robert and Cecilia Slagle; brothers-in-law, John and Daniel Slagle.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (of 55 years); son, Ernest (Annie); daughter, Laura Kearns (Charles Miller); grandkids, Brittney (Tom) Kemper, Nicholas (Claire) Kearns, Allison Miller, Lucas, Sydney, Beckett Hintze; siblings, Anna Bremer, Steve (Eileen), Sylvia (Michael) Miller, John (Sharon), David (Cathy), Bill (Karen); sisters-in-law, Liz Hintze, Bonnie Hintze; and the entire Slagle family.
