Ethel Pestrud

Prestrud, Ethel K. passed away 9-1-03 at the age of 93. She was a resident at the Lyngblomsten Care Center for a number of years. Preceded in death by parents, Carl and Nana; brothers, Earl, Norman, Raymond; sisters, Betty, Evey, Dorothy and Mildred. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Ethel spent much of her life in the nursing field caring for many types of patients. She spent 4 years in the South Pacific in World War II. Ethel attained the rank of Captain as an Army nurse. She was sent to the Philippines in 1942 and after it was invaded by the Japanese, she was sent to New Guinea in charge of 150 nurses. Ethel spent three years in New Guinea and in 1946 she returned home and became a county nurse. She eventually worked in health care in various hospitals in the St. Paul area. Many thanks to the staff on 3 North at Lyngblomsten Care Center for their caring support of Ethel. Memorial Service Tuesday 10:00AM at GLORIA DEI LUTHERAN CHURCH, 700 Snelling Avenue South. Interment Oakland Cemetery.
