Gene was born September 21, 1925 in St. Paul and passed away in the presence of loved ones September 7, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Esther Weiand. Gene is survived by Betty Mae, his loving wife of 66 years; daughter Jeanne (Bruce) Johnson; brother, Howard Weiand; grandchildren, Darin (Stephanie) Johnson and Bradley (Katie) Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Alex, Ben, Gavin, Cameron and Emery. Gene was born and raised on St Paul's East Side and attended Grant Elementary, Cleveland Junior High and was a graduate of the Vocational Technical Institute. He served as an army truck driver during World War II and saw combat duty in France, Belgium, and Germany. He was a machinist and supervisor at NSP and served as Past Master of the Montgomery Masonic Lodge. Gene loved to garden and was an accomplished ham radio operator. He was proud of his East Side roots and wrote a number of personal narratives describing his childhood growing up on St. Paul's East Side. Gene will be greatly missed by family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 14th at BRADSHAW CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard (NW corner of Hwy 36 and Co Rd 5), Stillwater. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service with reception to follow.
