Evans Opondo Odhiambo was born on September 29, 1967 and was called home to our Lord on April 27, 2020 with his beloved wife and his daughter by his side.
Evans was born in Nairobi, Kenya and was educated at Kenyatta University where he earned his Bachelor Degree in Education. He came to the United States to continue his education at the University of Minnesota where he received his Master of Education. Always one to keep pursuing learning, he later attended the University of St. Thomas and earned his Master of Software Design and Development.
Evans’ background and passion for blending technology and education together led him to a professional career at Infinite Campus.
In his free time, Evans was an avid reader and runner. One could usually find him either catching up on the latest news, studying the scripture or visiting the gym. The Odhiambo family would attend services at Eaglebrook Church in Woodbury together, where Evans had also volunteered with the production crew. He was a lifetime NRA member and enjoyed time at the gun range. Evans also enjoyed working outside and loved landscaping and caring for his trees.
Evans tried to return home to Kenya at least once a year and would often travel there with Alisha. One of Evans’ favorite memories was the trip he took to Kenya with Alisha, Andrew, and Donovan. He always had a few building projects and ventures in Kenya as well as working on projects in Woodbury. Evans had a close group of friends who joined him in his pursuit for the next big business opportunity.
Most of all, Evans loved spending time with his children and his wife, especially Sunday family dinners. He always had the biggest smile, even in the midst of the most challenging times whenever Esther would ask for her “da da”.
Evans embraced being both Kenyan and American after being sworn in as a U.S. citizen in 2013. Fourth of July quickly became one of his favorite holidays and he always found the best shirts to support his love for America.
Together for nearly 20 years, Evans married Alisha on December 21, 2014 in front of God, their family, and close friends.
Burial will take place at Evans and Alisha’s farm in Mahondo, Butere, Kenya.
Evans is survived by his loving wife Alisha, and children, Andrew (23), Donovan (21), and Esther Rose (17 months) and parents-in-law Tom and Helen Ellwood. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aloice Odhiambo and Rosemary Owino.
